This is my point, and what I'd like these carriers to change.
And the problem is that while you have a carrier, those of us who prefer not to leave high-sec, or those who haven't been playing long enough, don't have that option. High-sec mission runners have no real droneboats, only one race's ships which are good with drones, but still largely conventional in function.
Far as support bonuses, they could be saved for Tech 2 like with current logistics ships and the proposed Flagships. I'd just like to see actual carriers (small carriers), for every race, that can be used in high-sec. Both to guide people more easily into the skills and tactics needed for using a full sized carrier in low-sec and below, and to bring drone-centric combat tactics into high-sec, for variety, for fun, and for the good of those like me, who couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with a Tachyon laser, but who work wonders with swarms of well-trained Tech 2 drones.
In short, it's the drones I care about, and in that respect, if nothing else, the Arbitrator is, indeed, a mini-carrier.
@Alteris Domond: Well, whether either of them can use fighters or not, or whether they should instead acheive their firepower with drone number bonuses, I suppose is up to the devs. For the Light Carrier, the numbers needed for large drones to achieve the firepower they need to equal a battleship may be impractical, thus requiring Fighters to make it more feasable.
Far as the drone control modules, I was suggesting them for the Light Carrier, because it'd give people a tradeoff. They can fit tractors and salvagers, electronics modules, etc. but they'd need to sacrifice firepower for them. Or, they can fit the control modules for maximum firepower. Not both.
But yes, I do agree, the Dominix and it's smaller counterparts are all underpowered when using just drones, and that's because they aren't carriers, they're conventional warships that just happen to have drone bonuses.
A true carrier, a ship who's firepower rests solely in drones, would be great for missioning, and would offer an alternative to battleships in general, or perhaps a good ship to accompany them in missions. A ship with the drones to quickly pop the smaller targets, but that can tank the big ships like a battleship can. Perhaps not with as much DPS as some of the bigger, better battleships, and not as easy to train as the Raven, but still quite valuable, and powerful in it's own respect.
You have no clue what carrier is and what role it holds. You want pve droneboat to flex "smoother" throu missions (yea, like drones are good in mssions...) coz you feel like "you like drones so gimme ship! i won't train gallente screw you". And now a popquiz time, do you know WHY just-drone ships are not possible ? If you got no clue (most likely the case) then take a wild guess.
